Announcement:

Unique partnership agreement:  Nelson Mandela University School of Accounting and Nelson Mandela University Business School – preparing access to CIMA’s International Qualifications

Modern business – characterised by intensified competition and growing globalisation – requires people who can prepare and analyse financial and non-financial information in order to make sound day-to-day and long-term management/ business decisions against the background of a complex and fast-changing business environment.

For this reason, a powerful partnership between the NMMU School of Accounting – placed 1st in the country in the January 2015 Qualifying Examination Part 1 of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and the NMMU Business School – ranked 7th on the African continent and 3rd in South Africa, resulted in the creation of a suite of Short Learning Programmes (SLP’s) that will provide participants with the necessary business acumen to develop from First-Line to Top managers in order to function effectively in these demanding times.

Apart from being registered within NMMU and quality assured by the Faculty of Business & Economic Sciences, these SLP’s are also aligned to the thoroughly researched outcomes and requirements of the various papers and qualifications of the internationally acclaimed Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) - which recognises NMMU as a “Tier 1” university.

Successful completion of these SLP’s will result in the participant being awarded a NMMU Certificate of Completion, with input from NMMU tutors regarding their readiness to proceed with the relevant CIMA paper(s) (if a student would like to follow this route).  Should such individuals choose to pursue this, they can apply and register via the CIMA website (www.cimaglobal.com) and, when they are ready, write the relevant computer-based CIMA examination at NMMU’s North Campus or any other Pearson VUE examination lab around the world – thereby placing them on a path to becoming a Chartered Global Management Accountant.

11 April 2016 saw the official launch of the partnership agreement between NMMU School of Accounting and NMMU Business School – with Doug Withington, Higher Education Partnership Manager of CIMA from the United Kingdom, and Zahra Cassim, Head of CIMA South Africa, who announced that CIMA has endorsed this initiative and now recognises NMMU as a "Global Learning Partner", following an assessment by the institute based on CIMA's global tuition standards.
